September? Already? Summer has faded and fall is creeping in. Football season has begun, the kids are heading back to school, and the leaves will begin to change. Here in Wisconsin, that means the cold winter months are not far away. Before the temperatures drop, you should take some time to prepare your home for the fall, and impending winter months.

ServiceMaster Recovery Services has put together helpful hints to prepare your home.
1. Replace your screens
With fall coming fast, the weather will continue to get cooler and cooler. Remove your screens and install your storm windows. This simple task can help cut your heating costs by preventing cool air from entering through your windows.
Check your doors, and even windows, to make sure they are properly sealed. If not, fix the issue. This can also help prevent that cool air from entering your home.
3. If you own a fireplace, have it inspected before winter
Call a local chimney sweep to schedule an appointment. Not having your chimney cleaned can put you at risk for a chimney fire. Have your chimney cleaned by a certified professional prior to your first use of the season.
Take a peek at what's in your gutters. Over the last couple of months leaves and other debris may have been building up. In the fall our trees are going to shed their leaves, and you do not want accumulation in your gutters. Clean them out, start fresh.
It is often important to have a professional roofer or roofing contractor carefully inspect your roof. Look for any cracks, damaged/missing shingles or roofing materials. Damages to your roof could lead to water leaks into the home which costs more, than fixing than a missing shingle.
